The smartest, fastest way to reach your goals is to consistently work toward achieving them every day. The best way to ensure that you get your “reps” in is to create habits.
Habits, when consistently practiced, will lead you to the life you’ve always wanted. It won’t happen overnight, but over time you will reap the rewards that you deserve.
Let’s face it — a big reason why some people succeed and others don’t is determined by talent. Talent matters. But it is never talent alone that decides outcomes. Talent is a part of the equation. The criteria that help you reach your biggest goals include hard work, consistency, belief in self and a persistent approach to learning.
I’ve developed 10 personal growth tips to supercharge your day and massively increase your productivity. Here they are:
Spend the First 10 Minutes of Your Day In Solitude
This is a total game-changer and will have a huge influence on how you think and how you act. When you first wake-up, allow yourself some time to actually wake up and acclimate to the new day. Don’t listen to music yet, don’t start scrolling through your emails. Just… chill.
Speak positive affirmations over your life. Tell yourself you’re going to have a great day. Visualize and imagine yourself achieving your big goals and the goals you have for the day. Center yourself and begin your day with abundance, gratitude and joy.
Remind Yourself of the Reward for Achieving Your Biggest Goal
Don’t forget to keep your eyes on the big prize. This is the #1 reason why I see people fail. In my work with executives and startup founders, I’ve seen a common thread — the ones that always keep the big prize of victory in mind thrive. The ones that can too bogged down in the details and forget why they’re there in the first place often end up lost.
Every day- remind yourself of what you’re looking to achieve and why you’re going after it with all you’ve got. Once you get there, celebrate your win and let the joy wash over you.
Create at Least One Impactful Conversation
Get out in person and take a meeting at a local coffee shop. Pick up the phone and make a call to someone. Get on Linked in and strike up a conversation with an industry leader that you admire.
A recent example is that I reached out to very successful keynote speaker, Josh Linkner. He’s someone I really admire. A highly-acclaimed speaker, business and startup founder and entrepreneur that has crushed it at every level. We had a positive, impactful conversation that changed the way I see my business. It was well worth my time.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders’ magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!
Look for one person each day that you can help, and find people that can help you.
Spend Time With Someone You Love
Simple. Straightforward. Whether this is your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, father, mother, brother, sister or friend… show that person you love and care for them.
Challenge Yourself Mentally and Physically
This only needs to take a few minutes of your time. Seriously.
Get on the treadmill, do some push-ups, crunches and pull-ups.
Read one chapter in that book you’ve really wanted to read. Just one chapter.
These things could possibly take you 30–45 minutes of time. Even better, if you work from home, incorporate these into your break periods. Invest in your mental and physical development. That’s called self-care.
Find Your Emotional and Spiritual Sanctuary
Do you have a place where you can go to get away from it all, center yourself and listen to your inner voice? I do. It’s the peace and quiet of my home office. But I have other places, too. My church. The outdoors during one of my runs. I really find myself during these moments when I can get away, listen to what my intuition is telling me and just reflect.
This boosts your emotional intelligence. Self-awareness is a vitally important part of productivity. Why? It allows you to concentrate on what is important, helps you to eliminate things that aren’t, and gives you peace of mind and confidence to complete your daily tasks.
Spend 15 Minutes Writing About a Topic You Love
Writing about things that I love allows me the freedom of expression and peace of mind that I crave. I get bored very easily when I write about topics that aren’t inspiring or motivating. Write about the new skill you loved. Write about your day. Write about the person you care about most and why they inspire you. Just… write.
Learn One New Skill to Help You Learn Better
Think about all of the skills that go into being great at a given profession or job. If you want to be a great writer then you need to:
- Focus on writing every day
- Read new literature that expands your mind, enhances your creative imagination and helps you to become a better writer
- Learn the rules of grammar
- Take a writing course
- Watch a YouTube video recorded by a successful writer
- Go to a lecture and listen to the tricks of the trade from a successful writer or author
The possibilities are endless. You have so many tools at your disposal — many of which are free. The only thing stopping you from learning a dynamic new skill that will take you to the next level… is you.
Forgive Yourself And Others
Practice forgiveness. Take this from the work of Everett L. Worthington Jr.:
“People… who had forgiven others reported greater satisfaction with their lives and were less likely to report symptoms of psychological distress, such as feelings of nervousness, restlessness, and sadness.” Source: Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley
The same thing can be applied to yourself. Let go of the worry. Let go of regret. Forgive yourself for things that are nagging and tugging away at your heart. It’s over. When you forgive yourself, you can move forward. When you move forward, you open up endless opportunities and possibilities.
Spend the Final Moments of Your Day Giving Thanks
I love to end my day in prayer and with meditation on the things in my life that I love the most. It’s my secret to success. By focusing my energy on the people I love most, and the goals I’m achieving and planning to achieve, I create positive energy. I eliminate things that hold me back. I have a focus. Focus is what propels me to create habits that lead to productivity.
You have the power to do all 10 of these things. You have this power every day. Exercise it and use it to your advantage to achieve massive results.
